We Found Nemo!

Yesterday we tried a new to us cafe called Hangar Cafe for breakfast.  While you eat, you can watch the small planes taking off and landing at the small airport.  K loved it, kept turning around in his chair to watch the different airplanes.  I ordered a vegetable omelette and was thrilled when you could actually identify the vegetables!  Sometimes I get veggie omelettes from places and it begs the question, “Where are the veggies?!!”

Cool airplanes!

After breakfast we went in search of Nemo!

Happy to report we found him and he’s back home safe and sound with his dad!

D has to wear an eye patch for a couple of hours every day to correct a lazy eye situation.  We discovered last night we are out of patches but, no need to fear, mommy to the rescue!

I haven’t run in 3 weeks and I can tell you that my schedule is all out of whack!  I’m nervous about doing any lower body exercise so I am thinking I’ll use a couple of my workout videos this week to focus only on my upper body.  I need to do something!!!

How is your weekend going?

Hi, My Name is Jac and I’m Addicted to Blitz!

I got up on Sunday to do my long run and when I checked the weather and it said it was already 99 degrees at 5 am..I crawled back  in to bed.

The good news is that the weather forecast for this coming Thursday has a high of 100*!  So I’ll do my long run Thursday morning!

On Saturday, D and I met up with M for some coffee.  We also did some shopping at the nearby craft store.

D was super excited that you can “make your own Jesus house!!”

We managed to get home before this monster engulfed our humble abode!

At the craft store we picked up a latch hook kit so D can work on something while she wears her eye patch every night.  We busted it out Sunday morning and she got right to it!

We did our weekly grocery shopping Sunday morning and I made a turkey meatloaf in the crock pot for dinner.  It was pretty tasty!

I wasted a great deal of time on Sunday playing this game on my phone!  What I love about the game is I don’t have to think about anything while I’m playing it.  All I can think about are those stupid colorful shapes!

Even as we settled in for the night, D was still hard at work on her project!

So tomorrow is Tuesday and as you know, Tuesday’s have not been a “good day” for me (emotionally speaking) in the past month.  But I’m going to take your advice and I’m going to show tomorrow (Tuesday) who’s boss!

How is your Monday going?

Do you latch hook?

Are you addicted to any games on your phone?

Friends Don’t Let Friends Wear Outgrown Fat Pants!!

After M read my blog on Monday, she did what any great friend would do – offered to go shopping with me!!  We made a date to shop this morning.  I didn’t want to buy a lot because I haven’t met my weight loss goal yet.  Until I meet my goal, I still have to go to work-so pants are a necessity!

I also tried on a couple of tops but neither of us were really sure what this was!

Is it a dress?  Is it a shirt?  Whatever it was, it didn’t look good on me. I told M I looked like an Oompa Loompa!

I did find a couple pairs of pants that fit nicely!

They’re a size 12!!  Exciting stuff – the size, not so much the pants themselves – I’d say!

After purchasing the pants we went over to the fabric store to get some necessities for the costume M is making me for the Disneyland half marathon!!!  I’ve never run in costume before so I am super excited about it!!

We decided to have lunch at Pita Jungle and I was good and ordered the Grilled Vegetable Salad with Chicken.  I really wanted the Chicken Pasta Salad but…the grilled veggies are so much more healthier for me!!  And…it helps that they are so delish!

Once home, I quickly changed in to my running clothes so I could get my 1 mile done.  My legs, especially my hamstrings, were really sore and tight during this run – I blame the 13 miles I did yesterday, they were not kind.  In fact, I was really sore all day yesterday after that run. 49 days in to this streak and still going strong!  It is STUPID humid here.  Our temps are below 100* (unusual for July in Phoenix) but the humidity is KILLING me!!!  Please…bring back the dry heat!!

I have a massive headache now so I am going to curl up on the couch and watch Crazy, Stupid, Love!

Have you seen Crazy, Stupid, Love?

What’s for dinner tonight?

Do you wear costumes to races?

The Weekend Situation 7.1.12

Why does the weekend seem to fly by?  Grr..

Yesterday, after my 11 mile run and zoned out afternoon, K and I had plans to hang out with some friends of ours.  I was completely stoked out of my mind when I pulled on a pair of jeans I haven’t been able to wear in years…I say 2 years but I think it might be more than that.  The last time I tried to pull these babies on, they couldn’t make the climb over my ginormous hips!  But not last night!!!

I was most excited when J commented on this picture I posted on Facebook and said, “GOOD JOB MOMMA”!  Made my whole day!!

Feeling good and quite proud of myself..we headed out to dinner with our friends.  We ended up at Pita Jungle and I opted for the Grilled Vegetable Salad because this girl always raves about it!

It was an incredibly tasty salad and I chose it because 1) it was recommended and 2) I needed to save my calories for later in the evening!

We went to a friends house to celebrate another friends birthday.  I always find it interesting the things other people drink!

I have to be very careful about the liquor I drink because most of it gives me insane heartburn.  This looked like a fun bottle, though.  Sadly, I cannot account for how the drink tasted though. I was sticking to my vodka!

We played this insanely fun card game, Cards Against Humanity!  Everyone draws 10 white cards and 1 person reads the phrase from a black card.  As a player, your job is to “fill in the blank” of the phrase in the black card.  The game is highly inappropriate and completely not PC but it was a good laugh!

We had a really good time and didn’t get home until 3:30 am – way past my bedtime!

This morning I had plans to meet with two of my friends, G and L.  We use to get together once a month for a “Mom’s Night Out” and see a chick flick and have dinner.  L is moving to Colorado so we wanted to get in one last get-together.  The only “chick flick” currently in theaters is “Magic Mike” so we were forced agreed to see it.  Alright, truth be told, I don’t know if there are any other chick flicks currently out, it was no question we’d see this movie just because it seemed like it was the thing to do.  I’m not in to male strippers, by any stretch of the imagination, and I would be mortified if I went to a male review.  But I had already looked up trailers on YouTube and knew there was a lot more to this movie than raunchy dance scenes.  I was amused by all the gasping and disappointing sighs by the other women in the theater when things did or didn’t go as they imagined.  Mostly I was kinda grossed out by the middle-aged women there with their young teen-aged daughters.  Nothing says mother-daughter bonding like drooling over half naked men, I guess?!

After the movie we had lunch at Gordon Biersch.  Can you believe I did not order a beer?  I still had my 1 mile run to do and didn’t need beer getting in the way of making that goal a reality.  For lunch I ordered a Lobster & Crab salad. It was pretty good.

K was still out when I got home so I decided that since I was already covered in sweat from the drive home, I might as well suit up and do my 1 mile run.  It was 111* when I went out for my run and OMG, it was hot.  My legs were also a little sore from yesterday’s 11 mile run.  Needless to say, the run was a bit slower than it has been but at least I got it done.

Now I’m ready to just relax for the rest of the evening!

Would you see “Magic Mike” with your mom?

Would you take your young daughter to see “Magic Mike” with you?

Have you played Cards Against Humanity?

The Weekend Situation (so far), Excuses and Random Thoughts!

My normal weekend routine typically goes like this:

  • Friday night – Run and early bed
  • Saturday – Early AM run, errands, cleaning, and some resting (if I’m lucky)
  • Sunday – Up in the air…but usually stay home and do whatever needs getting done

This weekend has been anything but normal!

Friday night we had a late night out having dinner with my seester and D – both of whom had early morning Saturday flights to leave Arizona (seester going home and D going to CA for two weeks)!

D was super excited about her solo trip and her “big head” was growing larger and larger by the minute. I was starting to wonder how she’d fit her big girl head in the airplane but it seems to have made it in!

I don’t see anything sticking out that shouldn’t….do you?

Big firsts for my children yesterday: J got his driver’s permit in Ohio and D took her first airplane ride all alone!

After K and I were home from the airport, I did some homework and then went for my 1 mile run.  After I was home K insisted I shower so we can go to lunch which ended up being at the San Tan Brewing Co…Oh Yeah!!!

From there..the afternoon gets blurry! 🙂  We did meet up with M and her family because it was M’s birthday and they were in the area.  I always laugh a lot when I’m with M and we had a lovely visit!!

So here’s my thing..  I get up on the weekdays between 5:15 am and 5:30 am.  On the weekend, during the summer, I have one day that I have to set the alarm and get my run on before the sun comes up too much.  That said, with Saturday’s early AM trip to the airport..I didn’t want to have to set my alarm Sunday morning. I need at least one day a week that I can sleep until my body is ready to get up!  I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Additionally, my heart was not in this 10 mile run I had scheduled for myself.  I’ve been running every single day since May 28th and the lack of rest days is taking a toll. I just needed a break and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me taking a step back and saying, “I won’t do a long run this week!”  So..there you have it.  I gave myself permission to cancel my long run.  If someone would like to come collect my “Runner’s Club Card” just let me know.  But I highly doubt I’m going to get kicked out of the club because I just didn’t feel like running 10 miles on a 1/10th of a mile indoor running track.  Anyone here want to blame me for that?  I didn’t think so!

But the “you need to go for a run longer than a mile” voice in my head kept nagging at me.  So today, after I finished my 2 hours of homework, I set out for a run.  Told K I didn’t know how long I’d be or how many miles I’d do but I’d be back when I felt like it-which isn’t a very wise plan considering it’s so hot here, I normally like to tell K when he should expect me home so he can come look for me if he has to.  I was going to do that thing where you run for feel and freedom and not for time or pace or mileage.

So…yeah…it’s hot out there!!!!!!!!!!  There’s also a bit of humidity in the air – YUCK!!!!  Here’s what I thought about along the way:

  • I like that my tan line shows where my running socks start/stop on my ankle!  Tan lines to be proud of.
  • It feels weird not looking down at my running watch every 15 seconds. I wonder what my pace is…
  • It would be okay if I just ran my usual 1 mile.
  • You can do longer than 1 mile, maybe 1.5.
  • C’mon, at least do a 5k.
  • Who am I kidding?  What crazy person runs in this heat?
  • 11 minutes in and I’m already through one bottle of water.  There is no flippin’ way you could run 10 miles out here in these conditions.
  • If I was in a race right now, they’d have to put up black flags to warn runners.  I wonder if everyone would still get the bling?!
  • I’m going to finish the length of this road and then head home…this is stupid!
  • Don’t drivers have anything better to stare at than me?  Have they never seen a runner before?
  • I’m so glad I got most of my paper done for class.
  • When race season kicks up again, do I want to run a half marathon every month or every other month?  How about a 10k in between half marathon months?  Hmm…I gotta get all that figured out!
  • I could finish this “10 mile” run at the gym….or not.
  • I vote “not”!

I ran 2.03 miles in 23:21 minutes.  A far cry from the scheduled 10 miles but…better than nothing! I won’t be at the top of the leader board on Daily Mile this week but that’s okay!  It’s more important that I listen to my body and not burn out on this running business.  After all, I have a date with a half marathon to set a PR on September 2, 2012!

Do you feel guilty when/if you deviate from a running plan?

The Weekend Situation..including Father’s Day!

I’ve been sitting here this afternoon feeling exhausted and now that I’m starting to reflect back on the weekend…it’s no wonder!

I was up at 5 am on Saturday to do my long run outside. I really didn’t want to try and attempt running 9 miles on an indoor track.  As soon as I was home from my run – you know, after I recovered and blogged – we went to a birthday party for a very special 4 year old!

We had a great time at the party catching up with friends and lovin’ on our favorite 4 year old!  We spent a good 3 hours outside in the heat and boy was it hot!!!  K succumbed to peer pressure and went down the inflatable water slide with D!

Loved that I was able to capture this moment, it’s priceless!

After the party, we came home and I worked on some homework while K ran in to work for a couple of hours.  Later D and I met up with my seester (still in town visiting from Boston) to shop for some Father’s Day presents.

Dinner was had by all at Kona Grill.  I wasn’t feeling well after my long run and afternoon in the sun at the birthday party so I wanted something light and easy. I chose the Philadelphia Roll – yum!

And a Four Peaks Kilt Lifter – or two!!!

K had the Spicy Salmon roll, I stole a piece and it was pretty good!

Ended the evening getting hugs by my Pro Compression marathon socks!

And exchanging texts with some really hammered friends visiting Vegas.  I was also drinking a couple of these new-to-me beers!

(I didn’t care for this beer too much, it had a weird after taste – too flowery for me.  But it boasted 9% alcohol content per bottle so if you pick these up – watch out!!)

Today is Father’s Day…in case you didn’t know.  I was up around 9 am but needed to do a couple hours of homework before we did too much.  Since K was in a lazy state of mind, he was fine with me getting the homework out of the way.  After two hours, I emerged from J’s old room/my new study room, and we readied for lunch at Red Robin..yum!

I allowed myself to have the cheeseburger but skipped the beer. I still needed to get my 1 mile run in and having a beer threatened that goal from becoming a reality. It’s freakin’ out here today, my car thermostat is registering at 112*!!  Yikes.  Beer + Stupid Hot Temps = A Good Excuse Not to Run!

But alas, running prevailed and as soon as we were home, I went out for my 1 mile run.  That was torture. I had no random thoughts because…all I could think about was not dying of heat exhaustion!

After some cooling off, I dragged K back out in to the heat to get some ice cream!

Wow, I’ve consumed far too many calories in the past 24 hours!

I hope you’ve had a great weekend and have enjoyed your Father’s Day!  I especially wish these two great Dad’s in my life the Happiest Father’s Day!!  I love you both!

Birthday Celebrating Part 1!

K’s birthday was Wednesday but D’s early morning puke fest terminated all future plans of the day..  Poor K…and D (she was the one throwing up, after all).

I reassured him I’d make it up to him so I had every intention of making Saturday all about celebrating K’s birthday…after I did my 8 mile run, of course!

We started the celebrating by seeing Madagascar 3.  K and D have seen the first 2 movies but I haven’t because I’m a Disney snob.  It’s true – I own it.  While I waited to buy snacks, I was wishing we were seeing this instead….

But alas, it hasn’t been released yet.  I don’t only see Disney movies, there are times I have been dragged to branched out, Despicable Me (non-Disney) is the shiznit!!  Me and K laughed our butts off at that movie!!

Madagascar 3 was pretty good for a kids movie.  The theater was packed and a family sat their 3 boys next to K and then sat 3 rows away.  Who the hell does that???  Thanks for letting us babysit your Icee slurping, chair rocking, “Where’s the popcorn?” askin’ brats!!!  So irritating!!!!  I keep saying I’m going to quit going to the theater because of all the rude people there but..we still get suckered in.

After the movie…we finally made it to The Keg for K’s birthday dinner!!!  K and I fell in love with The Keg during a visit to Niagara Falls, Canada a few years ago.  They make the bombest screwdrivers with fresh squeezed OJ!  OH Yeah!!!!

I was thoroughly entertained watching the butter for my crab melt!

I’m really a simpleton, if you haven’t figured that out yet!

Ahh!!!  The crab is attacking my filet mignon!

Fear not, I showed the crab who’s boss!

Fab dinner!!  Always amazing and delicious!!

Finished celebrating K’s birthday with shots at home!

Now it’s time for my birthday!!!!!!

I was up early because my allergies decided to flare up, lucky me!  Around 8:30, I decided to get my 1 mile run done and over with for the day!  I highly doubt I’ll be in any condition mood to do it later this afternoon!

After my run and a shower (you’re welcome); K, D and I went to breakfast.  We visited The Good Egg for the first time.  K picked it because it boasted “healthy options”.  I ordered the 7 vegetables (minus 2 of the featured veggies – onions and bell pepper) and egg white omelet!  Yum!

After breakfast we hit up Sprinkles for my free birthday cupcake (we picked up cupcakes for everyone, including my seester because Sprinkles makes the bomb gluten free cupcakes – or so she tells me.  The way she inhales them, I believe her)!

After we were home, it was present time!

Someone’s been reading my blog!!!  🙂

I don’t know that Part 2 of the birthday celebrating will be as long as Part 1 since it sounds like K and I are on our way to our favorite brewery!!!  Oh yeah!!
