I Haven’t Lost It!!

So..yesterday was Tuesday..  I was mentally prepared for Tuesday.  Thanks to you wonderful readers, I was ready to show Tuesday who’s boss.  And I did pretty good, all things considered.  Even when I got the rejection of the “dream job” I interviewed for..I still held it together.  Even when I ended up on the couch at 9:30 pm..I was still doing good. I figure that since I didn’t cry all day, I defeated Tuesday!

Yesterday, I picked up my favorite bread from Fresh & Easy and later picked up almond butter because M says I can’t eat peanut butter any more..something about mold?  So this morning, I had my breakfast of toast, nut butter and chia seeds..

I don’t know if I’m a huge fan of almond butter. I missed the flavor of peanut butter. It was really weird eating the breakfast I typically had at “work”..since I got laid off, I’ve been eating eggs, waffles, or nothing at all (bad, I know)!

Skipping to this afternoon!

When I left the house to pick D up from school, I immediately noticed an absence of something..scorching sun burning my skin!  Overcast skies..nice!  When I got in my car, I noticed the absence of a sweat downpour on my face and I didn’t burn my hands when I touched the steering wheel.  Say what?  It’s 97*?!  It’s almost jacket weather in Phoenix today.  Okay, not quite jacket weather but I didn’t have to put the A/C on full blast!

Then I got super, super stoked as I realized I was excited to go for my run.  I’ve been worried that I’ve lost my interest in running. I’ve basically forced myself to do my 1 mile per day but haven’t managed to do much more than that, unless I go with D and K for their 5k training, since I lost my job.  I was practically pacing, waiting for K to come home so I could go on my Wednesday run of speed work.  Even though I was happy to be happy to go out for my run, I was willing my iPod to only play my angry music when I put it on shuffle!

Some random thoughts during today’s run:

  • Wow, there’s actually people at the park today..guess they got the memo about the cooler temps!
  • Okay, dude, you don’t look cool riding your cruiser around the park and not wearing a shirt.  Please, for the love of the innocent, put your shirt back on!
  • There’s a lot of debris in the bike lane thanks to that storm last night.
  • I don’t know how people manage a 6:13 pace for longer than 30 seconds..this pace is killing me.
  • It’s kinda pathetic that I feel this happy to run in 97*!
  • Now shirtless man is doing lunges on the park benches.  I wonder who’s more excited about these cooler temps, me or him?
  • iPod, you are not failing me…one angry song after another.
  • I hate being unemployed.  I hate it, hate it, hate it.
  • If the temps were cooler, I’d be a running maniac during this unemployment time.
  • Moving my long run to Saturday, when the temps are supposed to have a high of 97*!
  • I am so happy doing this run right now.  So happy!
  • Careful in this area..I think this is where D nearly stepped on that dead bird yesterday!
  • “The Way I Am” (Eminem)  is a great song to run to!

I ran 2.24 miles in 26.30 minutes.  Today I did my “normal” speed training workout. I can’t tell if I struggled at times because:

  1. Of the heat?
  2. I haven’t been doing my normal training?
  3. I’m stressed?
  4. All of the above?

I started to worry that I’m not going to hit my goals for the Disneyland half marathon in 2 1/2 weeks. Then I told myself that I need to give myself a break and realize life has thrown me a major curve ball and I’ve allowed it to derail my training plan.  But can I just tell you how very excited I am that I realized today I haven’t lost my love of running?!?

Tonight at dinner, we all had a lovely glass of chocolate milk!  It was so tasty!

Do you like almond butter?

Do you eat the same thing for breakfast every day?

Do you like to make your own chocolate milk or buy it “ready made”?

You Can Run 11 Miles on an Indoor Track Without Losing Your Mind…and Other Random Thoughts..

K and I watched 21 JumpStreet last night and laughed our booties off.  At least I felt like we laughed our booties off but when I woke up this morning I noticed my bootie was still hanging on!  Oh well!

I set the alarm to get up at 5 am for my long run but I shut that noise right off when it rudely woke me up!

When my body woke up all on its own at 9 am, I knew I was screwed for running outdoors.  Truth be told, I love Phoenix and I don’t mind the heat.  What I hate about summer is there is such a small window of opportunity to run outdoors and it means getting up at 0’Dark Thirty – I suppose the solution there is to quit running?  Nah!!!  I don’t like to wake up early but I do it 5x a week for work.  I hate waking up early on the weekend unless I’m going on a trip or running a race.

I really tried to talk myself out of doing a long run.  But it’s like my body was being controlled by something other than my nagging mind because it kinda went in to auto-pilot and just started getting ready to go to the gym.  It was the strangest thing.  My mind was screaming, “I don’t want to do this!!!  You can’t make me!!!” and yet the rest of me wasn’t paying attention.

When I stepped outside I thought for one split second, “I could run out here, couldn’t I?” but my body kept moving towards the car and then I saw this (the clock says PM but it’s wrong, I need to fix that, it’s AM!):

There goes my brilliant idea that I could run outside:

So off to the gym to run on the 1/10th of a mile around indoor running track..this ought to be interesting:

  • Okay…so let’s just drop this down to a 5 mile run instead.
  • Saturday mornings are clearly not a popular workout time.
  • I really hate this shoe on my left foot!
  • I really don’t want to do this today, maybe just 45 minutes?
  • Shauna is right, this sucks-this sucks-this sucks.
  • Stop whining and just get through this.  If you keep griping this is going to drag on forever.  Find a happy place.
  • Wow, all the treadmills are in use but nobody is on the bikes. I really don’t know that I could stand in one spot and run.  It’s hard enough on this track.
  • It’s a lot cooler in here than it was yesterday.
  • Is that Running Jan Brady??  Oh…no…just a totally different girl who is strutting around here trying to get noticed.
  • That’s a big group gathering for Zumba.
  • Whoa, stopping for that GU (although completely nasty) and Nuun really seems to have helped me a lot!
  • Is that dude sleeping in that chair??  OMG, yes he is.  Dude, are all these people exercising wearing you out?  Wow.  Dude, get up and do some exercise then maybe you won’t be so freakin’ tired.
  • That looks like one of my water bottles in that corner…oh…that is my water bottle..hurry back around to get it so it doesn’t disappear!
  • What is that lady doing with her legs?  She’s walking like a flamingo!  Wow, that’s runny.
  • Seriously…every time I hear this Pink song (Family Portrait) I get teary eyed.  I’m glad she seems to have worked things out with her parents.  It is so awful what people do to their kids!
  • Sleeping Dude, your wife has just gone in to the Zumba class and you’re still sleeping in that chair. I’m getting really pissed off now!
  • Who comes to a gym and sleeps?
  • Seether, your “F$^k It” song needs to be my official Power Song!!!  Hot damn my legs picked up the speed during this song!
  • Don’t worry, Eminem, we still have “No Love”!  Nobody can take that away from us!
  • OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!!  8.49 miles done??  Really!?!?  Oh I can’t quit now!!
  • How did I get to 9 miles without noticing?  I swear the first four miles were torture!
  • Why is the last mile always the hardest?  C’mon legs, I know you’re sore and tired but let’s finish strong.
  • Oh my goodness, I am so sore.  WTH?!!
  • Can it be?  OMG!!  I just ran 11 miles on an indoor track and I didn’t lose my mind!!!!!

I ran 11.03 miles in 2:00:53 hours.  I’m not gonna lie, I cried while I did my stretches, not because I was in pain but because I was so happy I did the full 11 miles. I  really did not want to do this run but I didn’t want to come back here and give a bunch of BS excuses, either.

I smell something fierce so I must shower and put these clothes in the washing machine.  Gahhrroosss!!!!

Do you listen to dance music or angry music (like Rock) when you run?  I listen to both but it seems the angry music helped the most today

Would you be sad and angry if you saw an overweight dude sleeping at the gym?

What is your favorite cocktail?

Random Thoughts During Today’s 9 mile Run…..Outside!! 6.16.12

Nothing has ever tasted so good than this Tri Berry Nuun on ice I’m drinking right now.  Wow.  Sometimes, after a long run, things don’t taste “normal” so I’m waiting for a few minutes before I dig in to my Fage with cherries but for now, the Nuun is hitting spot.  While I wait to attack my favoritest Fage, I’ll share my insanity with you!

  • For once it doesn’t seem like the weather people lied, it does feel like it’s pretty decent out here…in the 70’s – I’d have to agree.
  • Don’t forget…don’t go to the canal…don’t go to the canal…don’t go to the canal!
  • Son of a…..why didn’t I sync my iPod last night?!!  BEP’s are killing me!!!
  • Glad I remembered to wear my visor this time…that sun is a bit blinding in this spot.
  • I wonder if these people read my blog…they both have their sprinklers on as if to invite me to run through them…even though the water will just reach my calves…it would be rude of me not to partake in this lovely gift!
  • Holy shitake mushroom….WTH did I just trip on??  And how did my right leg come flying up along the side of me like that?!  Wowzas!
  • WTF, iPod?!?!  Yesterday we were in sync and today you’re running BEP’s every other song…must…press…skip..wish there was a “dislike” button so my iPod could get its act together!
  • Wow….someone is sauteing the hell out of some garlic!
  • Why was I worried this would be the Sheryl Crow version of Sweet Child O’ Mine?  I don’t think I have any Sheryl Crow songs and I hate how she ruined this song…why would I think I’d have it on my iPod…oh…probably because I cannot figure out how so many freakin’ BEP songs wound up on my playlist.
  • Jac…seriously…you gotta pay attention to the road in front of you..there are too many rocks and twigs and stuff and I don’t  need to be tripping again.
  • Holy goodness, dude. It’s 7 am and you’re already up for a wake and bake session?  Sheesh.  I might get a contact high just running past your backyard!
  • It’s a good thing I listened to myself and stayed on a route close to home…need to head back there for some water.  Can’t finish these last 3 miles without water…
  • I think the most important thing about learning to run in PHX is learning how to hydrate…well that’s a big fat “duh”.  Stop thinking, keep running.
  • Okay, now just go in the house and get water..don’t look at the couch, don’t think about how slow you feel…just get the water and get back outside…you are gonna finish these last 3 miles!
  • Wow, it feels cooler outside than it does inside..I should go back and wake up K and tell him to come out with me..ha ha ha!!
  • OMG, this is hard…  I think I jacked myself up when I tripped…my legs are really sore.
  • Thank you, iPod, for finally getting it together.  Limp Bizkit, Korn, Eminem, Matchbox Twenty, Sick Puppies…these are not songs I skip…BEP…those are songs I want to chuck you across the road and stomp the hell out of you..
  • Okay, Eminem, some of your earlier stuff is just not appropriate.  I really don’t want to hear some of this nasty stuff…  I’m so glad you’ve grown up over the years!
  • LIAR!!!!!  Nike+ app, I do not just have 400 meters to go!!!!!
  • How is that these shoes can feel so different on each of my feet?  Nice and secure on my right foot.  No support on my left. I am really going to need a new pair before the half marathon!
  • How is it that sometimes the Nike+ app is slower than my Garmin and sometimes it’s way ahead?  Killing me!
  • It’s okay to reduce to a 30 second run, 30 second walk strategy in this last mile….it’s a lot warmer and damn my legs are achy.  There is no shame in walking…there is only shame in quitting!  Walking is not quitting!

I ran 9.02 miles in 1:41:36.  Although the weather was pretty decent, I normally judge the temperature by how much water I go through. Today I drank 7 out of 8 bottles and used 1 bottle to pour on my head – that really helps a lot!!!

Before I leave you, I have to show you a project I worked on yesterday.  I have ZERO PhotoShop skills but I followed a tutorial and created this:

I was super excited about it (because it took me 3 times of going through the tutorial to finally get mine to look like theirs)!!

Got any fun plans for the weekend?

Random Thoughts Without Losing my Mind!!!

I wanted to run 90 minutes last Saturday but pooped out after a little over an hour.  So this week I really tried to psych myself up and do this!!!  Mind over matter, right?  We’ll see..  Here are some of the random thoughts I had during today’s run..

  • So yesterday we had young Pretty Girl and today we have Middle Aged Girl that is trying to seek attention, Lord help us all!
  • I gotta zone out, I can’t think about every single minute I’m on this track or I’m gonna quit before 90 minutes.
  • Yes, dude, please stand in the middle of the running track to watch soccer on the TV.  This is a gym. How about you plant your butt there on one of those bikes and do some exercise while you stare at the tube?!
  • Wonder what they’re shouting about down there on the basketball courts..
  • I appreciate that they change the direction of traffic on the track every other day but damn…when we go in this direction we get a good strong whiff of the people on the bikes..  YUCK!!!!
  • How many times do I have to weave around you on the left before you figure out you’re in my way???  Apparently, these past 5 times isn’t hint enough..so frustrating.
  • Middle Aged Girl, you’re going to throw your hip out strutting like that..and in case you haven’t noticed, the guys lifting weights are not paying attention to you!  Now move out of my way!
  • My pace here on the track is pretty decent but it’ll be interesting to see how that carries over to my next half marathon.
  • I think my legs are tiring and slowing because I haven’t had any rest days.  I bet I’m gonna kill it in July when I get a rest day!
  • I’m gonna need to pick up my pace if I want to reach my goal of 8 miles today.
  • Thanks Eminem for the angry motivation.  Get angry..get my legs moving…kill this track!!!
  • Ah ha!!!! I have totally figured out what to get K for his birthday, only 3 days later.  Why didn’t I think of this earlier?
  • Not trying to rush my weekend but I’m really excited to register for Tinker Bell on Tuesday!!!!!
  • I hope my friend ran today.
  • It’s a good thing I’m sticking to 90 minutes, we have a lot of birthday celebrating to do this weekend.

I ran 8 miles in 1:30:22.  I had to force myself to zone out quite a few times so I wouldn’t focus on the fact that I was running 90 minutes on a track only 1/10th of a mile around.  I’m excited I didn’t lose my mind because I really thought I might!!

I’ve refueled with my favorite Fage with cherries and am on my way to drink a kombucha tea!!!  Hope you are having a great Saturday!!!

How many miles did you run today?

Do you use “angry” music (like Eminem) to motivate you when you run?

What’s on the menu for dinner tonight?
