I Haven’t Lost It!!

So..yesterday was Tuesday..  I was mentally prepared for Tuesday.  Thanks to you wonderful readers, I was ready to show Tuesday who’s boss.  And I did pretty good, all things considered.  Even when I got the rejection of the “dream job” I interviewed for..I still held it together.  Even when I ended up on the couch at 9:30 pm..I was still doing good. I figure that since I didn’t cry all day, I defeated Tuesday!

Yesterday, I picked up my favorite bread from Fresh & Easy and later picked up almond butter because M says I can’t eat peanut butter any more..something about mold?  So this morning, I had my breakfast of toast, nut butter and chia seeds..

I don’t know if I’m a huge fan of almond butter. I missed the flavor of peanut butter. It was really weird eating the breakfast I typically had at “work”..since I got laid off, I’ve been eating eggs, waffles, or nothing at all (bad, I know)!

Skipping to this afternoon!

When I left the house to pick D up from school, I immediately noticed an absence of something..scorching sun burning my skin!  Overcast skies..nice!  When I got in my car, I noticed the absence of a sweat downpour on my face and I didn’t burn my hands when I touched the steering wheel.  Say what?  It’s 97*?!  It’s almost jacket weather in Phoenix today.  Okay, not quite jacket weather but I didn’t have to put the A/C on full blast!

Then I got super, super stoked as I realized I was excited to go for my run.  I’ve been worried that I’ve lost my interest in running. I’ve basically forced myself to do my 1 mile per day but haven’t managed to do much more than that, unless I go with D and K for their 5k training, since I lost my job.  I was practically pacing, waiting for K to come home so I could go on my Wednesday run of speed work.  Even though I was happy to be happy to go out for my run, I was willing my iPod to only play my angry music when I put it on shuffle!

Some random thoughts during today’s run:

  • Wow, there’s actually people at the park today..guess they got the memo about the cooler temps!
  • Okay, dude, you don’t look cool riding your cruiser around the park and not wearing a shirt.  Please, for the love of the innocent, put your shirt back on!
  • There’s a lot of debris in the bike lane thanks to that storm last night.
  • I don’t know how people manage a 6:13 pace for longer than 30 seconds..this pace is killing me.
  • It’s kinda pathetic that I feel this happy to run in 97*!
  • Now shirtless man is doing lunges on the park benches.  I wonder who’s more excited about these cooler temps, me or him?
  • iPod, you are not failing me…one angry song after another.
  • I hate being unemployed.  I hate it, hate it, hate it.
  • If the temps were cooler, I’d be a running maniac during this unemployment time.
  • Moving my long run to Saturday, when the temps are supposed to have a high of 97*!
  • I am so happy doing this run right now.  So happy!
  • Careful in this area..I think this is where D nearly stepped on that dead bird yesterday!
  • “The Way I Am” (Eminem)  is a great song to run to!

I ran 2.24 miles in 26.30 minutes.  Today I did my “normal” speed training workout. I can’t tell if I struggled at times because:

  1. Of the heat?
  2. I haven’t been doing my normal training?
  3. I’m stressed?
  4. All of the above?

I started to worry that I’m not going to hit my goals for the Disneyland half marathon in 2 1/2 weeks. Then I told myself that I need to give myself a break and realize life has thrown me a major curve ball and I’ve allowed it to derail my training plan.  But can I just tell you how very excited I am that I realized today I haven’t lost my love of running?!?

Tonight at dinner, we all had a lovely glass of chocolate milk!  It was so tasty!

Do you like almond butter?

Do you eat the same thing for breakfast every day?

Do you like to make your own chocolate milk or buy it “ready made”?

Random Thoughts During Today’s 9 mile Run…..Outside!! 6.16.12

Nothing has ever tasted so good than this Tri Berry Nuun on ice I’m drinking right now.  Wow.  Sometimes, after a long run, things don’t taste “normal” so I’m waiting for a few minutes before I dig in to my Fage with cherries but for now, the Nuun is hitting spot.  While I wait to attack my favoritest Fage, I’ll share my insanity with you!

  • For once it doesn’t seem like the weather people lied, it does feel like it’s pretty decent out here…in the 70’s – I’d have to agree.
  • Don’t forget…don’t go to the canal…don’t go to the canal…don’t go to the canal!
  • Son of a…..why didn’t I sync my iPod last night?!!  BEP’s are killing me!!!
  • Glad I remembered to wear my visor this time…that sun is a bit blinding in this spot.
  • I wonder if these people read my blog…they both have their sprinklers on as if to invite me to run through them…even though the water will just reach my calves…it would be rude of me not to partake in this lovely gift!
  • Holy shitake mushroom….WTH did I just trip on??  And how did my right leg come flying up along the side of me like that?!  Wowzas!
  • WTF, iPod?!?!  Yesterday we were in sync and today you’re running BEP’s every other song…must…press…skip..wish there was a “dislike” button so my iPod could get its act together!
  • Wow….someone is sauteing the hell out of some garlic!
  • Why was I worried this would be the Sheryl Crow version of Sweet Child O’ Mine?  I don’t think I have any Sheryl Crow songs and I hate how she ruined this song…why would I think I’d have it on my iPod…oh…probably because I cannot figure out how so many freakin’ BEP songs wound up on my playlist.
  • Jac…seriously…you gotta pay attention to the road in front of you..there are too many rocks and twigs and stuff and I don’t  need to be tripping again.
  • Holy goodness, dude. It’s 7 am and you’re already up for a wake and bake session?  Sheesh.  I might get a contact high just running past your backyard!
  • It’s a good thing I listened to myself and stayed on a route close to home…need to head back there for some water.  Can’t finish these last 3 miles without water…
  • I think the most important thing about learning to run in PHX is learning how to hydrate…well that’s a big fat “duh”.  Stop thinking, keep running.
  • Okay, now just go in the house and get water..don’t look at the couch, don’t think about how slow you feel…just get the water and get back outside…you are gonna finish these last 3 miles!
  • Wow, it feels cooler outside than it does inside..I should go back and wake up K and tell him to come out with me..ha ha ha!!
  • OMG, this is hard…  I think I jacked myself up when I tripped…my legs are really sore.
  • Thank you, iPod, for finally getting it together.  Limp Bizkit, Korn, Eminem, Matchbox Twenty, Sick Puppies…these are not songs I skip…BEP…those are songs I want to chuck you across the road and stomp the hell out of you..
  • Okay, Eminem, some of your earlier stuff is just not appropriate.  I really don’t want to hear some of this nasty stuff…  I’m so glad you’ve grown up over the years!
  • LIAR!!!!!  Nike+ app, I do not just have 400 meters to go!!!!!
  • How is that these shoes can feel so different on each of my feet?  Nice and secure on my right foot.  No support on my left. I am really going to need a new pair before the half marathon!
  • How is it that sometimes the Nike+ app is slower than my Garmin and sometimes it’s way ahead?  Killing me!
  • It’s okay to reduce to a 30 second run, 30 second walk strategy in this last mile….it’s a lot warmer and damn my legs are achy.  There is no shame in walking…there is only shame in quitting!  Walking is not quitting!

I ran 9.02 miles in 1:41:36.  Although the weather was pretty decent, I normally judge the temperature by how much water I go through. Today I drank 7 out of 8 bottles and used 1 bottle to pour on my head – that really helps a lot!!!

Before I leave you, I have to show you a project I worked on yesterday.  I have ZERO PhotoShop skills but I followed a tutorial and created this:

I was super excited about it (because it took me 3 times of going through the tutorial to finally get mine to look like theirs)!!

Got any fun plans for the weekend?

Random Thoughts During Today’s 45 minute Run 6.15.12

After Wednesday’s scary run on the indoor track at the gym, I sent the gym a rather long email expressing my concerns.

Does it surprise anyone that there has been no response from the gym?

As I walked in to the gym today, I braced myself for another scary run on the track and/or possibly new signs warning people to be more cautious.  Alas, there were no new signs but the gym was practically empty. I suppose “happy hour” is more important than working out on a Friday and so I began my run and let the thoughts just flow:

  • Yes!!  Jan Brady/Pretty Girl from last week is back!!  Still running like a doofus!!  Awesome!!!  Thanks for starting my run with a giggle, goofy girl!
  • Sometimes I feel like my iPod and I are in sync..angry hate music seems to be on today’s playlist agenda!
  • Ya’ll want a single say “f” that..F that…F that…Whoops…did I just sing those lyrics right out loud??
  • Why can’t every day at the gym be like Friday? I love that nobody is here!
  • Spoke too soon, the stupid kid that I come face-to-face with every single day is here and walking towards me.  Does he live here?  What’s his deal?
  • Jan Brady keeps disappearing…she flies around me flailing her arms about and then she disappears.  Where does she go??
  • I can’t figure out what it so fascinating about watching the kids on the basketball court but these dudes will spend quite a long time staring down from above at them.
  • Thank you iPod, we’ve had Korn, Linkin Park, Eminem, and Papa Roach belt out some angry lyrics in my ears this run.  Those boys have really motivated me to move my legs..feelin’ good!!!!
  • WTF?!?!  I thought I sync’d up my iTunes.  Why the hell is BEP starting up…must skip song immediately…gotta keep the momentum going!!
  • That’s interesting…you’ve spent the past 20 minutes in the corner talking on the phone and now you’re gonna try to out run me here on the track…You in your nylon pants, AE shirt, and normal shoes..Okay..well, now you’ve sprinted out to pass me but you’re only staying about 2 feet in front of me….I’m ready to pass you…ROAD KILL…not only did I just pass you but I’m pulling away from you with ease..what’s that?  You’re trying to quicken your pace..I can hear you behind me dude…Your breathing is out of control…I think the dude back there is trying to pass me again…good thing I’m coming up on my walk break otherwise I think he might drop dead…okay, so now you’ve had a chance to pass me….OMG, that’s hilarious, you get 5 feet ahead of me and stop!!!  Oh goodness that was a great time..  Dude!!  Clearly you are not in any shape to be running…but it was a nice attempt to try and beat me.  Good times..thanks for the amusement.
  • Alright!!!  Cool dude waiting for his kid to finish her dance class wants to give me a high five as I run past him.  That’s awesome.  Thanks for that little pick-me-up in the last 5 minutes of my run, Cool Dude!!!!
  • Passing Cool Dude again and he’s giving me a thumbs up.  Making my day.  Awesome.  *big grin*
  • I started this run feeling angry but I’m finishing with a big smile on my face – thanks to the amusement from my Road Kill and the encouraging support from the Cool Dude stranger!  And let’s not forget the running Jan Brady!  Good times!!!

I ran 4.32 miles in 45:01!

What’s on your agenda for the weekend?

Are you like me and forgot that Father’s Day is Sunday?

When is your next race?

Random Thoughts During Today’s 7 Mile Run!

When temperatures drop from being in the 100’s to being in the 80’s, a runner in Phoenix has no choice but to get outside and run!  (In my opinion.)  After all, it could be the last time we see 80 degree temperatures again until October, maybe even November!  So out I went…just me, my iPod, Garmin and a flood of random thoughts:

  • Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day!!!
  • There’s hardly any traffic on the road this AM…I love 3 day weekends in Phoenix – everyone skips town-it’s the perfect time to stay in town!
  • I have so much to do today, I have so much to do today, I have so much to do today..
  • I’m not even going to complain about this wind that is almost knocking me over..nope, not gonna complain, even though it’s really making it difficult to maintain my pace…I’m not complaining!
  • C’mon, you can do it, you can do it, you can beat yesterday’s 5k time…YES!!!!! I did it!!!!!  Phew..now I might die..
  • We should go to the brewery after we pick up my parents at the airport…I could limit myself to one beer since I have to drive back to the airport later to pick up my seester!!
  • I’m excited my family is coming..I hope we have a good time!
  • Chicken enchiladas at the brewery sound so good!!
  • I bet my mom would split the enchiladas with me.
  • I wonder which beer my dad would pick at the brewery
  • I really need to go buy a foam roller today!!  I love the way it rolled the pain in my butt out!! he he he
  • I should just make the pork chops we already have in the fridge and keep the brewery for later..
  • We could have the pork chops but stop in for just one beer..
  • I can’t believe she called me out in her blog about buying a foam roller. I’m totally going to buy one today.  Who knew a foam roller could feel so good?  I wonder what else she’s told me to try and I haven’t listened..
  • I wonder how many other runners spit when they run, I seem to spit a bit.  It really sucks when I can’t spit at the gym!
  • I am killing my last 10k race time…feeling good!
  • Why does the first half of a run seem to go so slow and the 2nd half goes faster?  I don’t seem to run any faster or slower during each segment..
  • You’re right, Kelly Clarkson – What doesn’t kills you makes you stronger, STRONGER!!!!

Ran 7.01 miles in 1:16:26.  According to Daily Mile, that is my 4th fastest time in the past year.  In fact, my top 5 fastest times have been recorded just this month. I’m definitely feeling stronger and faster when I run. I’m pretty excited.  I ordered the book “Train Like a Mother” because my BFF was telling me it’s pretty good.  I’m curious to read what their training plan is for killing my next half marathon (which happens to be the Disneyland half marathon September 2, 2012)!!

What’s your favorite part of a 3 day weekend?

Are you running the Disneyland half marathon?

Do you have a foam roller?

Random Thoughts During Today’s 6.58 mile Run!

I normally do my long runs on Sunday but since tomorrow is Mother’s Day, I wanted to get the long run done and over with on Saturday.  Because, truth be told, my plan is to wake up and drink mimosa’s on Mother’s Day because that’s how I roll!

  • WHOA!!!  OMG!!!  I just almost stepped on that dead bird…**shudders**  OMG!!  So gross.  That would have been a disaster…
  • Seriously, Runner Dude?  I pull out on to the canal and you decide that’s a good time to take your shirt off?  Yuck!
  • I feel like I’m in a game of Frogger when I illegally run across these 6 lanes of traffic!  I hope I don’t go **splat**!!!
  • WTF?!  There’s a lot more traffic on the road at 6:30 am on a Saturday than there is on a Sunday?  Where is everyone going?
  • I know I put my iPod on Shuffle but why is it playing all these troubled relationship songs?  They can’t be the only types of songs on my playlist.
  • OMG, why do I always choke up when I listen to this song (Family Portrait)  by Pink?!  She really does a great job conveying her emotions in this song, damn.  *tear*
  • You tell that gold digging beotch where to go Eminem!!  “Now it’s time to f*cking step!”  (Sang that line right out loud to the cows I was running past.)
  • Seriously, bikers?!?!  You really can’t wiggle your fingers or nod to say “good morning”?!  I quit.  I bet if I flip off the next biker I see, there will be a reaction!  Jerk heads!!
  • OMG!!  That runner that just passed me (from behind) scared the crap out of me when she said ‘good morning’.  Good thing I wasn’t closer to the canal since I jumped over a good foot!  Sheesh.  Now she’s passed me, scared the crap out of me and is pulling away from me with ease..  I bet she goes home and blogs about that.
  • Interesting…the dude that removed his shirt in my presence has now put his shirt back on.
  • But that dude on a bike without his shirt on should REALLY put his shirt on.  Wow, when your love handles can almost touch the sides of your bike seat…you need to keep your shirt on!
  • I’m really struggling out here.  My hip hurts, my toe hurts, I feel like I’m going slow.
  • The nice thing about running outdoors…you can spit.  Couldn’t spit on the track yesterday, that was unfortunate.
  • Never mind what I said last week, I need to call my running store and find out what their return policy is!
  • On that note, I need to call my chiro!
  • Hey!  That’s the same runner dude I saw a couple of weeks ago being paced by two bikers.  He must be some kinda famous runner or something.  OMG!  He just tipped his hat at me and said ‘good morning’.  I could seriously cry!!!  I love when runners are so encouraging of other runners.  Would it be inappropriate if I run back and hug him??
  • FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…while you’re sitting on your ass tomorrow – remove Black Eyed Peas from your playlist.  WTF!?!
  • Why do drivers stare at me as they drive past me?  Like literally, turn this heads and look at me.  There is nothing sexy about me running.  Eyes on the road, drivers, eyes on the road!

Ran 6.58 miles in 1:17.  I don’t normally do back-to-back runs and there’s good reason for that, today was a nice reminder of why that is!  Now I’m off to do the long list of things I’d like to get done today!!  Have a great Saturday!!!
